A good book with many illustrations. I've already used a few in my preaching as they really make the point real.

Works great for small groups, bible studies, devotion time, and even message ideas.

I use it in my ministry.

This has been an indispensable part of my preaching preparation for over a year. The illustrations vary: some are jokes but more are serious, some are parables but more are life anecdotes. The majority of the illustrations are fresh and relevant. All include full citation info - who said it, when, and where it was previously published.What makes this volume so useful is the indexing. All illustrations are categorized by their major theme. Two indexes at the back list (a) illustrations by related scripture, and (b) illustrations categorized by alternate themes. It is actually easier for me to find things in the paper edition than using the included computer program on CD.Sprinkling one of these anecdotes into my sermons every week or two has improved the quality of my message. My congregation often uses the story as a hook to remember what I say.

While this Chumash does seem very (some may say "too") dependent on Rashi in both its commentary notes and its translation choices for the more difficult Hebrew, I find the traditional notes and Rabbinic commentary Enlightening even when I don't completely agree with it. I like the Koren fonts for Hebrew a little more and the Koren tendency to put the Hebrew on the left instead of the right page, but the fonts for the Hebrew are easy to read and the traditional page layout is maintained. The pages in the full-size version are large enough for the Targum Onkelos, Rashi's commentary in Hebrew, and English translation and commentaries. The JPS translation is more literal than the Artscroll, and as I said, the Artscroll relies heavily on Rashi.I use more modernist Tenakh and Torah commentaries often, but having an Orthodox version which skews traditional and is very useful for understanding Judaism as it is understood by Haredi and other Orthodox rabbis. The book design is excellent and sturdy. The pictures at the end at quite good. I find that I use it with Jewish Study Bible quite a bit.

I've known this Chumash for 20 years. In my opinion, it offers the most correct English translation of the Old Testament. Most translation out there are either in olde english, or are simply just wrong. Hebrew or "lashon kodesh" as the Old Testament is written in, has many words that cannot translate correctly into the English language, This translation does an excellent job of translating not only the text, but the intended idea and context of the text. This should be a book in every Jew's home.

I don't know how, I have gone so long without one of these. Although I consider myself a Messianic Jew, I believe that the key to understanding Torah is to clothe ourselves in a eastern way of thinking rather the the western way of thinking which has corrupted the word of HaShem, and what better way to do that then to undersand the Hebrw people. I Loooooooove Yisrael!

As I said in my review of The Jewish Annotated New Testament, this edition will absolutely amaze you as well ! I get lost in time reading this for Jewish thought & legend & lore is so colorful, which makes me feel like my upbringing as a Protestant Christian is far more black & white & gray with some pink & red. But the other colors are missing & I found it here. I am researching every Jewish commentary or edition on the Bible as it has come to us. I'm still immersed in JUST GENESIS in the Chumash ! It's so mindboggling, the footnotes, the viewpoints from angles so multifaceted, just prepare to grow a bunch in your understanding of God. For I have not found this depth in Christian Bibles. I also love to read the Hebrew & compare, for I am learning Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek & more biblical languages.

This is an absolutely beautiful work. The cover is embossed and the writing on the cover and throughout is beautiful.The Book contains "Five Fifths of the Law", more commonly known as the five Books of Moses, or the first five books of the Old Testament in the Bible.Inside, you will find the Hebrew font large, beautiful, and easy to read (assuming you can read Hebrew). On the opposite page, you will find the English translation. Beneath these, you will find commentary in Hebrew and English.This is not only a great resource for students of Scripture in its original language, it is a treasure for your dresser, table or nightstand.

I was raised as a catholic and fallen away, but working to re-discover my spirituality. I know most of the major stories of the old testament, but never read it as a continuous sequence of events. What shocked me (in a good way) is how most of the book is filled with commentary. Reading this now, I love the ease of the english translation, and the indepth commentary of every statement to truth understand the meanings. It's really helping me to understand the jewish faith and help on my spiritual journey to embracing judaism.

What a valuable book! The insights on each Scripture from the traditional Jewish perspective is wonderful. I reach for this often as I read through the Torah cycle yearly. A great asset to understanding what the sages have discovered and shared over the years. Though I may not always agree with the conclusions, I appreciate that several opposing views are shared. A beautiful collection of Jewish wisdom is found within these pages. Great, great book!

I love this Chumash - it is all here. Easy to read and many commentaries. The Hebrew is not too small and it is easy to read for an English reader as both the readings and the commentaries are in English on the left hand page. It is a truly beautiful book. Thank you.

This is a GREAT story! Who would have thought that I would like a book about football players? Heather Horrocks has done it again with this story! I enjoyed everything about this book!

Mind-body therapist Amy is certain she can help Daniel Reid recover from his fifth concussion and his pre-ALS symptoms--but Daniel's brother Knox is equally certain Amy is just one more scammer after his brother's money. He is determined to protect his brother (and his brother's marriage), but that's not the only reason he can't stay away from the beautiful, feisty Texas gal.I'm not a sports fan, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I liked the spunky heroine and her sense of humor, as well as the loyal, sweet, sometimes clueless brother. It's a nice, light read without sex scenes, bad language or violence, which I always appreciate.

This look inside the world of some someone suffering from concussions and possible ALS really opened my eyes! Knox and Amy are adorable too. While the romance moved quickly, I liked that the characters were flawed but could still love and forgive. What touched me the most was the author's note at the beginning explaining that her son-in-law suffered the same condition as Daniel, Knox's brother. The company that makes such a difference in Daniel's life is based off a real company that made a huge difference in the life on Heather Horrocks' son-in-law. I love learning about new things while still enjoying a fiction story.

I'm not a football fan but Heather made it fun. I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next between Knox and Amy. A very good read for a snowy afternoon. I loved it.

Knox Reid, aka Fort Knox, is the ultimate protector both on the football field and with his family. When his brother gets pre-ALS symptoms following a series of concussions Knox feels a need to protect him from what Knox thinks is a scam instead of a legitimate therapy. He doesn't plan on falling for the beautiful therapist. It's a cute story and I enjoyed it!

A fun, clean, quick read full of heart. Enjoyable characters, enough real life to be believable but enough happily ever after to keep me happy. Great read!

I love this story of love. How Knox & Amy came to be. With determination and a zest for life. It's a love story worth falling in love with.

If you have read anything about his life you know that he was irreverent, quirky, odd and an absolute genius of the highest magnitude. This is a fantastic book to understand the power of curiosity. If you want to know how one of the smartest people on the face of the earth approached innovation, creativity and deep thinking – this is an excellent book to read.

Richard Feynman was a fun-loving Physicist. He disliked the pomposity he saw in some of his peers (Atomic Physicists, and in the world around him. He became the favorite college professor of many college students. His stories about meeting the many famous people in planning the first Atomic Bomb; at Princeton and in California are all interesting and very funny. For whatever reason, I always feel like his books are light, enjoyable reading. He is an American hero, winner of a Nobel Peace prize; youngest member of the Atomic Bomb Committee during WWII where he first Einstein and other world renown physicists. He shares his anecdotes of them all.

Actually ordered this by mistake. Meant to order Surely You're Joking.... But it was a happy mistake. Still not a big fan of books made from assorted papers because they just don't flow well. It is much easier to read them when the person is interesting. Some folks are critical of Mr. Feynman's antics over the years. He just seemed playful, curious and refreshingly honest. Most people try to hide their weaknesses, especially those in the sciences. Not him. He openly discussed his quirks and personality flaws. He loved what he did and seemed happy. That showed throughout the book. But he was not refined, cultured or overly full of himself. He cherished his working class upbringing. I found him endearing and funny yet a few of his activities would not have been something that would appeal to me. There was less information on his scientific pursuits and the value of his contributions than I thought there would be still it was a fun read over all.

A work of brilliance communicated with wit and rationality. This is an excellent sampling of Captain Feynman's short works. Also, the cover is much better than the one pictured here (see photos), and the price here is unbeatable. This is definitely a book you want in your library, and this is certainly the place to buy it.

One could easily retitle this book "The Pleasure of Finding Feynman."Feynman deserved to be on the national bestseller list with this one. If anyone ever asks me to define a genius, I can do that in one word...Feynman. It has been a real joy for me to have found him and then to read his writings, view his lectures which are mostly collected at YouTube online and not necessarily easy going, and to read/hear what his contemoraries recall about his role in their lives.Knowing a genius isn't something that most of us will encounter in our lives. We may know some very smart people who are much smarter than ourselves. But a genius is so much smarter than those smart people and the rest of us that it makes me wish that I could live in the genius world that he inhabits. A genius is to a normal and even above normal mind as a cat is to a mouse...so much faster than lightening that the mouse can't even begin to imagine it...and is doomed to be lunch. I wish my mind could do what his mind does...even for a short time ("Flowers for Algernon" anyone?). The next best thing then is to get to know him, and since he is dead the only way to do that is to try to get to know him through what he writes, what he says, his lectures, his humor, his philosophy and his astonishing comtributions to Physics and many other fields.If I ever had the opportunity to sit down with him for a beer and have a conversation, I really wouldn't say very much at all. What I would do, is to listen as he pulls seemingly unrelated threads and things together to clearly illustrate his point in a way that even a layman can understand; and then I would hope that he had nowhere to go so that he could hang around and do that all over again with subject after subject until my ears were tired. Listening to his voice and seeing him deliver is just amazing.If you want a taste of Feynman and a glimpse into the mind of a genius, buy and read this book and travel a bit with him. You definitely do not have to be a physicist to take away your own sense of wonder, respect, and just plain joy at meeting Richard Feynman on the printed pages of this book.

While some parts of this book are very enjoyable and provide a wonderful window into both Feynman's way of thinking, and the historical context (the "Los Alamos from Below" section, for example), I found others more difficult. Still worth reading, absolutely, just don't expect the same level of interest, humor, scientific detail, or just about any other aspect to be consistent from one section to another. This makes sense, as the book is a collection of items given to - and intended for - different audiences at different times. Unfortunately, at least for me, the inconsistencies meant that I could barely put the book down while reading some sections but found myself preferring other reading material over Mr Feynman's musings while working my way through the others.

Can't get enough of reading about this man! A brilliant thinker and a real down to Earth human. Also see the videos of him saying a lot of what is in this book ( on YouTube-of course!) so you can see and hear him. I found him quite amazing. His love of learning and enthusiasm is contagious!

Amazing lectures and articles. This is my very first introduction to Richard Feynmen and while I'm reading I can feel my viewpoint shedding inessentials and I see more clearly.
