About the Author

Michael J. Bradley grew up in Philadelphia, where he attended parochial schools before entering LaSalle College on a military scholarship. After briefly serving as an officer in the U.S. Army, he entered law school and supported himself with a temporary job counseling troubled adolescents in an inner-city Philadelphia high school. To his amazement, he developed a passionate interest in his new sideline job and switched to graduate studies in psychology, ultimately earning a doctorate from Temple University. Since then, Dr. Bradley has worded with children, adolescents, and their families in treatment settings ranging from jails, to social service agencies, to private practice. His professional experience with children encompasses virtually every aspect of youth work. In addition to being a licensed psychologist, Dr. Bradley holds a specialized certification in the treatment of substance abuse disorders from the American Psychological AssociationÂ’s college of Professional Psychology. He is also a member and Fellow of the American College of Forensic Examiners. Dr. Bradley, his wife Cynthia, and their biological son Ross adopted Sarah, a baby girl who was born cocaine-addicted and then nearly starved to death in a neglectful temporary home. After one terrible year, she began to blossom into a beautiful and loving little girl. This "gut-wrenching and incredibly rewarding" experience reinforced the core premise of Dr. BradleyÂ’s work with children, which holds that "love is indeed the most real, most potent aspect of parenting. And, in parenting, what doesnÂ’t kill you makes you stronger." A recipient of the William Penn Humanitarian Award, Dr. Bradley lives with his family in suburban Philadelphia, where he worries incessantly about his childrenÂ’s impending adolescence.

I haven't reviewed many things, but felt compelled to write how this book has changed our home life for the better. We have a blended family which has been trying at times and our teen has gone through difficult periods. It really has to be you who changes first and then you'll be encouraged to see how things can quickly follow suit. I also have toddlers in my house and it's almost the same mindset of- Their brains aren't functioning at full capacity yet. I know it's not easy, for me as an adult, to control my feelings so putting yourself in their shoes helps you let go of all the anger that their defiance and attitude brings up. You're choosing to model good behavior, expect good behavior, and let go of your expectations of a perfect teen to be rewarded with a happier and closer relationship with your human, mistake making, still growing teen. It's not foolproof, there are still bad days, but they are much farther apart and less severe than they had been.

I wanted to like this book, I really did. I mean, it has really great reviews. (Un)Fortunately, it didn't discuss most of the problems I'm having with my teen.As I write this review, my son will be 16 at the end of the week. He's a superstar compared to the examples in this book.This book discusses:-The hormonal changes that make your teen "crazy." --I already knew some of this so it wasn't a surprise.-Drugs and Alcohol-Teen Sex and Drives-Acting Out - fighting, name calling, screaming at parents and other peopleAnd that was great. People need to be able to understand how all of that works. I read at least 3/4 of the book before I found information I was looking for and the information there was lacking. These are items like:-School Work/Grades and life balance (I mean, we all want a work/life balance)-Teen amnesia - the "I forgot"-Sudden "blindness" or "deafness" - this is written about but I needed MORE.I will say that one thing I got from the book was "talking points." My husband and I talk to our son about drugs, and he talks to us about them, so the stories the author shares were easy to work into conversations at dinner. My favorite is the one about the "red pill in the toybox." That was a good drug and trust conversation.So yes, I'd recommend this book if you are in a high risk teen situation, but if you would consider your teen well adjusted but forgetful, spacy, and sometimes with a little attitude, this may not be the type of read you're hoping for.

I turn to this book whenever my teenage son pushes me too far. Rather than react to him, I retreat to my room and thumb through the book looking for the chapter or passage that is relevant to the circumstance at the moment. The mantra I say to myself is "He's Crazy, I'm not. This too shall pass and my lovable son will soon return." I know this to be true because my older son has come full circle after a couple of years of the silent treatment, rolling/evil eyes, shaking the head and passive defiance. I wish I had this book while I was going through the "crazy teens" with him. The anecdotal stories are useful, and in some cases calming.

Several pages worth of excerpts were given to me by my counselor whom I visited to talk about issues with my daughter. I've read them the same day and the light bulb went on and for the past two months we had zero fights. Not because she is not hormonal anymore or dealing with growth and changing schools and family issues, but because I finally internalized a truth I've known for a long time, but it didn't actually click until Bradley spelled it out for me again: we are our kids' rock and we model behavior and unconditional love. no matter what they do or say, we are here to love them unconditionally and teach them how to react and act to crisis and emotions and situations. if we are reactive to their behavior, we would just push them away and in dangerous situations and also damage our relationships with them. if we learn to really be in control and take some distance and look at their tantrum and such from a broader perspective, we would be able to keep our cool and not yell back, not hit back, not abandon or betray or abuse our children. It changed my life, that one small chapter. So I ordered the book the same night and started reading it from the beginning, but no matter how helpful or not the rest is, it deserves 5 stars for the way it changed our lives for much better. I purchased other books from Bradley as well and can't wait to read them. One is for teens, teaching them the parents are crazy haha.

We loved walking through the High Line while visiting New York and this book is perfect as it explains the history of the rehabilitation project. It has many illustrations, architectural drawings, photos, etc... The format of the book is unusual and cool: large rectangular with many pages that flip open on both sides to make the format even wider giving superb perspectives. This was our son's graduation gift for his degree in Architecture and he loved it. The only thing I wish was that Amazon had packed it better as one corner was a bit damaged and we didn't have time to ask for a new one before the graduation.

Wonderful for New Yorkers or those who love to visit!I have ordered this book twice to give as a gift ;and it is always well-received. It is a heavy, beautifully-covered book with so much interesting history and images about the New York phenomenon known as the High Line. It covers the history of the construction and design of this park on NYC's west side. It is not just for architects - anyone who is fascinated by the High Line would appreciate this.I bought it for my son-in-law who lives along the park.It is well-priced here. I first saw it in a boutique for a much higher price; then purchased on Amazon.

This map is both too detailed to the point that the writing is so small an squeezed together that it is illegible and not detailed enough to the point that it is not helpful in figuring out road intersections and routs. The map is also on a very, very large folded piece of paper and so opening it in the car is impossible. Why one side of the map is blank is astonishing since it would be much more practical to put half the map on one side and the other half on the backside. The map is good as an overview of Switzerland, to see the major routes and cantons but I cannot use it as a map for driving. As to the inserts for the major cities, those too are only helpful in a general way but not helpful for actual directions and to track exits and smaller roads. The bottom line is that you cannot rely on this map as a tool for getting you around the country.

Great planning road map. We are planning on driving while in Switzerland and the map is very detailed and easy to use.

Was looking for some detail regarding train hubs and routes between major cities and City center detail for 2 - 3 cities. Got some of that.

Very good map, quite detailed but I think the Hallwag maps are better, more detailed and the map itself is easier to physically handle

I have not found a map of Switzerland better than this one. Some place names have been left out - probably because of the challenge of getting all onto one sheet. Indicates some geographical information as well as roads and funiculars, etc. It will guide us in October when we visit Switzerland.

The argument is dense, both philosophically and historically, but the book provides one of the best summaries available of the development of knowledge work and its relation to "cool."This survey is framed by a larger argument, however, which seeks to establish a place for the arts and humanities in the information age. Liu argues that together they can establish a historically grounded aesthetic sense to serve as a counterweight to the capitalist drive for innovation at any cost that ignores the past and its human costs.

Repetitive, vague, and more style than substance. I had to read this as part of my PhD in literature, so perhaps I more bitter than it warrants. Still, I've read a lot of new media crit., I did not find it stimulating or useful.

Full of striking observations but ultimately too disorganized and inconclusive to do justice to the question of the place of humanistic knowledge in a culture of knowledge that is "cool," technical, and purposive.

This is such a powerful story that really reaches into one's heart and shows you things that need to be made clear. I have read the Bible almost daily for over 40 years, and although I have memorized a lot of it, some parts have always eluded me with their archaic and symbolic wording and anachronistic references. But reading this book has brought many of my favorite scripture passages into a new light and a new form of understanding. Things that made only a glimmer of sense before are now very clear. I thank Mr. Rubart for that... nice job!As to the writing, I found the conversations natural, the descriptions enough to get a picture but not so much to drone on and on, and the spelling and grammar were spot on. I don't recall seeing any editing mistakes or those dreadful "spell check" errors one tends to see in digital books. His writing style is tight and keeps you running at a good pace - not so slow you lose interest, nor so fast you feel like you're going to miss something important or like he's trying to rush you to a conclusion.I very highly recommend this book not only to Christians but to anyone who enjoys a good mystery and "paranormal" read.

I almost never give a 5 star review. Every book seems to be lacking something to make it the top. This book gets a rousing 5 star review. Someone wrote if Peretti wrote the shack it would be this book. I love peretti and I really enjoyed the twists of the shack but this book is far better. Imagine, someone loves you enough to build you a mansion really, and knows you well enough that it suits you perfectly and has your memories in it, then imagine the person is long dead and you can't even remember him. He also seems to know your every thought and move. Hmm... what would you give up for that? Mysterious doors appear? Mysterious strangers? Odd unexplainable happenings. Oh yes, this book causes you to think of Gods love and what he wants to give us, if we'll only allow Him to take charge. I truly had a hard time putting it down and stayed up late too many nights reading it. Will look for more from this author but he has set the bar pretty high for himself! By the way, I forgot to mention it isn't a horror book. Thriller yes, suspenseful yes, but not scary or horror.

3.5What was really engaging about this book was its originality. As Micah goes between two worlds, they change. His decisions have tremendous effects and seeing these unfold are what makes this book a real page turner.My hesitation with this is the theological aspects. Micah gets a lot of spiritual advice here. Eventually as a reader you recognize that the advice conflicts. Some of it is from God, some from Satan. My concern is with the authoritative way both perspectives are presented - this could lead to some reader confusion. Of course the intention here is good - people are pointed to Jesus and the Bible eventually very clearly. And with-holding clarity at the start does make the book more intriguing for the reader. Perhaps my main issue is I don’t believe God could or would work like this.However, this is a very interesting story and I can see people reading this that otherwise wouldn’t read Christian fiction. I just hope they read to the end.

I know this is a Christian but it would be helpful to anyone. It reminded me of Larry Crabbs’ book “Inside Out”. It helps you look into your subconscious and take a serious look into your “Self” side and Gods side and the issues they cost. In this case it cost the main character a dream situation. It also reminds me of the Bible verse about seek and you will find. The doors to the “Rooms” show me that that verse can work both ways. You can open a door to your self will or one to Gods will.Reading the book, I lost track of time. It is so well written and so smooth that I finished the book in 4 hours. Only other book that I can say that I read in that amount of time was “This Present Darkness”.Even if you do not believe in God but you want to see how the mind can work you should read this. I want to read this again because I know I missed some areas. I want to read other books by James Rubart.

This book's title has probably attracted those interested in Enterprise Content Management. ECM has increasingly become a major buzz in business strategy circles as the information age tidal wave spills over into organizations and floods them with content. We're literally drowning. "Managing Enterprise Content" does not discuss ECM in broad terms, such as structured and unstructured content, email, scanned documents, OCR, ICR, etc. Instead, it focuses on content reuse. To take a simple example, a product brochure, a website, and a press release all include descriptions of a product. Why, the book argues, rewrite that description three separate times for each medium? Why not write it just once, store it in a content management system, and then reuse it over and over again? "Content Modularization" or "Content Reuse" probably describe the goals of this book less confusingly than "Managing Enterprise Content." But, in fairness to the authors, the current title isn't inaccurate, it just lends itself easily to misunderstanding. To reiterate: those looking for a course in Enterprise Content Management conforming to the Association for Information and Image Management's (AIIM) guidelines should look elsewhere.Nonetheless, those looking for a strategy to manage distributable content throughout an organization should take a look at "Managing Enterprise Content." The focus remains on implementing a "unified content strategy," which translates essentially to an efficient reuse of content. Here the word "content" has a specific sense relating to verbiage authored for a specific use. Product descriptions, mission and vision statements, disclaimers, compliance and regulatory announcements, anything widely distributable qualifies. How does one efficiently manage the creation and the evolution of such content across an organization? This obviously implies some form of centralization (although this pregnant term gets strategically avoided for obvious reasons). And this further implies a software system. But prior to purchasing an expensive application, the business must align itself process-wise to enable content reuse. Otherwise the costly program will sit and rot. The first three parts of the book (I - III), comprising its first twelve chapters, discuss these necessary preparations and walk the reader through to implementation. This progression mirrors, for good reasons, the project management and software development life cycle processes. First, determine the concept or the "why?" of the project (Chapters 1 & 2). Then perform cost benefit analysis (Chapter 3 discusses ROI for content reuse), analyze and prioritize the current content infrastructure, the "As-Is" (Chapters 4 through 6), look to the future by modeling and designing the elements of the system the "To-Be" (Chapters 7 through 11), and finally implement the reusable content infrastructure (Chapter 12). Evaluation of software tools and technology should come before implementation, but the book instead covers these topics in Part IV (Chapters 13 to 18). So it's that easy to implement a unified content strategy? Well, no, not really.Part V, the book's final section, outlines the inevitable issues that face organizational restructuring. Implementation of a unified content strategy will probably necessitate fundamental changes. Roles will get changes, people moved around, departments will get realigned or reorganized. All of this can sap morale or cause anxiety amongst employees. The author is not an authority on such issues, so this section of the book remains somewhat cursory and high-level. Conflict management gets deferred to a website (the book contains an out of date URL, but the book's website[...] has an updated address), and the advice presented here will probably not surprise anyone. Still, managing change remains an important part of any new implementation and this section, though rudimentary, will at least raise awareness.Lastly, the appendices contain a grab bag of information. Appendix C, on vendors, has probably suffered from age (these days, a lot can happen in three years), but it may provide some good leads. Appendix B, "Writing for Multiple Media," probably could have appeared in the main body of the book; it contains important details not covered elsewhere.Overall, the book does give a plausible outline for implementing the proposed strategy. Some of the chapters may seem overly simplistic or overlong to those experienced with system implementations or business process management. At the very least, "Managing Enterprise Content" may introduce some readers to the concept of enterprise content reuse. That concept remains a challenging one that will likely mean different things to different organizations. So this book does not provide the final word on the subject, nor does it intend to. An organization can only use this book as a blueprint or a guidepost for implementing its own unified content strategy.

It would have been nice to see real life examples and situations throughout this book. Chapter 10 did provide some mocked up scenerios for content design. Furthermore, the writing style was too dry. Without the real life examples, it was more like the theory of enterprise content management.It's an excellent study in content management, but I prefer a first person writing style and some solid real life examples.

I've been into a lot of diet programs and for me non of them actually works because the more you try to avoid the food that you wanted the more you find yourself eating it thus you gain weight instead of losing it. Intermittent fasting by far had me amazed as I tried it for two weeks now just by mere instructions of my office mate. I wanted to make this as my diet program now so I got this book. Upon having a quick read on it, I find this to be a great source of information in doing the diet right. I sure am sure that I would see great results in here. So I'm keeping this one as my guide. Nice one!

I liked that this book presents clearly how to actually go about it, why is it effective and what are the long-term benefits.By giving pros and cons it helped me develop my own opinion and feel confident and informed enough to try it out! Fasting is really a proven method of reducing weight. I am really surprised to read this method is also being in use by Muslims and they do this in 1 month for every year. Then I decided to know how they do. My friend suggest this book and this is really awesome. I learn how I can burn my fats. I found that in this there is given a proven tip that is fasting. Fasting is a duration in which we will not eat any thing fro 6-8 hours. And this method really worked to burn fats. I also spent 2 days in fasting and really I feel better. I recommend this book to everyone.

I always love diet book. That's for sure. It always gives me new ideas to prove my boring lifestyle of eating AND how to improve my health. I've read different diet books before and this one is so unique. I never believe that not eating can help you lose weight for a longer period of time. However, this book proves me wrong. Well, it taught me how to do it correctly and what food I should eat when fasting. I'm still trying this few days and I know it is always hard at the beginning but I know I will succeed on this.

The author did a great job in providing all the information needed on knowing intermittent fasting. Fasting is a difficult process and require strong power of will. It is great how the author took into consideration the psychological aspects of it and decided to give that a lot of emphasis. Also, there are some food nutritional values present, which makes the book a lot more interesting.

This book is very fast, short and easy read, with no extra fluff. I learned a lot about weight loss and intermittent festing in this book that I haven't known before, some things were truly eye-opening for me. Some revelation persuaded me that intermittent fasting is perhaps the most powerful way to lose weight that exists and boosted my motivation to try it. I honestly thought initially that I might be wasting my time, however after reading the entire book over the last hours I now know what plan of fasting I need to implement and why.Now after reading this and using this technique, which I didn't know anything before, I started doing so much better and losing weight faster. I have lost some pounds and I am now very happy with my look. Take this book for try.
