If you enjoy being a slave, then this is not for you.

Insightful, and well written.

In 1974 Anton Szandor LaVey, High Priest of the Church of Satan, sent me a copy of the first edition of _OTP_. Anton was not a cruel or sadistic person, but he regarded humanity with the indifferent cynicism of a carnival showman: society is divided simply into the shearers and the sheep. If you're not one, you're the other. Anton saw the social aspect of his Satanism as an exposé of mainstream Judæo-Christianity in this dichotomy; he did not think that his _Satanic Bible_ had to be either long or complicated to make the point. _OTP_, he remarked, was an "economic SB". When you read the copy you should order right now, you'll see exactly what he meant.The nations of the world are either autocracies (monarchy or dictatorship) or oligarchies (formal or informal cabals of military and/or economic elites). All routtinely claim to be "public servants", working for the interests of the entire citizenry. As long as this image is maintained, by a mixture of propaganda and force, the autocracy/oligarchy remains in power. If it fails, the result is revolution and the eventual institution of a new, similar elite. Yes, this is a very harsh, banal, and depressing portrait of humanity; it is unfortunately also coldly realistic. The "science-fiction" of George Orwell's _1984_ has quietly become the contemporary way of life._OTP_ was a shocker in 1974 when it methodically and dispassionately instructed a fledgling oligarch concerning his powers and prerogatives. I am frankly curious whether it will retain anything of this shock today, or whether readers will simply nod their heads at its explicit confirmation of their experience. Either way it is a decisive literary confrontation - and, true to Anton's summation, a concise one. The first edition was only 56 pages long, including a zinger of a bibliography. But those 56 pages are all it needs to make its point.As a Political Science Ph.D. and professor, I've studied and taught the world's greatest altruists and optimists as well as the cynics and skeptics. Personally I am a Platonic idealist, and so _OTP_ is rather the Lovecraftian monster that I earnestly hope won't break through into this dimension. But the rattling of that iron gate in the cellar keeps getting louder ...

It’s a quick read, showing astonishing and timely insight into the Big Universal Problem (BUP) that ails us. I wish the Transcriber had covered the income tax a bit more thoroughly and that he would have elaborated on the controlled-media propaganda machinery. Quibbles. [On a personal note, in current times (2010+) my understanding of the corporotocracy/toxocracy has taken a turn toward the view of the Thrive movement, et al, which has elicited more than a few contrary emotional reactions on my site from Mr. Transcriber. We both live in the greater Detroit area.]As honest journalists and ‘causality theorists,’ we cannot close the book on further inquiry… that may augment or even contradict an earlier consensus. That said, Occult is a book that demands to be resurrected and handed out to your friends and acquaintances in all walks of life. It is a forthright look at the system we find ourselves living in today from the perspective of an inductee into the supposed organization pulling all the strings in the background. I got a real kick out of this book and read it in one sitting. This book is for both the cynic who already knows and the novice taking their first steps into the field. I love the quotes at the beginning of each chapter. It's a nice touch.

Book came directly from publisher quickly. Binding and artwork were great. The content was entertaining. A great addition to my personal library.

I bought this from Underworld Amusements and look forward to reading it. Rev. Slaughter was gracious to reply to a customer service inquiry and helped promptly. I look forward to this and was surprised how small it is but that tends to me it gets to the point and has power. Love or dislike the message in this (smirk), you have to respect it. I'm super excited to share this book this morning for a couple of reason: First, I finished it last night and second it came out today. I know cutting it a little short here. However, the main point is I finished the story. YAY!!!!!Anyways, I don't know how many of you have read any of the Lord Hawkesbury's Players books, but they are pretty interesting read. If you are looking for something set in the Elizabethan time, you've found it with these books.So, To Tempt the Devil is about the adventures of Elizabeth Croft (Lizzy) and Rafe Fletcher. Rafe has come back to London to start a new life. When Rafe returns he finds his younger brother in a pickle. James asks Rafe to look after Lizzy while he is away. Somehow Lizzy and Rafe end up in serious trouble and have to go into hiding.Overall, I liked this story. To be honest, you can start by reading this book and catch up with the other two books at another time. The great thing about To Tempt the Devil can be a stand alone story. However, I have read the other two books and enjoyed them. Plus, you do see characters from the other books in To Tempt the Devil.The main characters are fun to read about. I love how Lizzy is thought as a shy girl, who starts to blossom once she gets to know Rafe. I think Rafe really brings out her true self. Rafe is a true treasure. Here is what I mean, he's the type of guy who will stick up for you when you need someone to defend you. A true hero, even if he has made a couple mistake in his life. And who can forget players they add a touch of humor to a serious situation.So, if you are looking for a Elizabethan romance with action, murder and mystery look no further than To Tempt the Devil. I read these books backwards, going back after this one to read Minerva's story in Her Secret Desire. I enjoyed these books very much.Leo is a very honorable Baron. He always does what's right no matter what. When he meets Alice and they form an attraction to each other he has trouble being the one that always does the right thing. He must marry well to save the family estate after his father ruined the family and their connections by getting money from investors in the ton and then spending it on his mistress.Alice falls for Leo as well, but after learning about his troubles and what being with her could cost him she does what she can to keep away from him.Its a great read and I definitely recommend it!

For the first 2/3rds of the book I liked it. Had enough going on to be entertaining. Then it just went so far downhill I read the rest with a grimace and debated whether is was even worth my time. Lizzy does something that is completely out of character or at least not developed enough to make it believable. Overall not written well. I would not recommend this to someone even to pass the time...harsh, but reality.

I read on a Kindle Fire HD disconnected from the internet which is the only possibility I can come up with of cause of each first chapter page being missing. This has occurred with one other book.

The author manages to keep the setting (Shakespeare's London) and the characters fresh in this sequel. As they say, the devil is in the details and the details are what make this novel stand out.

This was a good story. It gave more details of the secondary characters than than the first, which I appreciated. I really enjoyed the story, I think this author real potential. I gave four stars because I felt this story really needed an epilogue. It ended abruptly for everything the H&h went through. Some key things needed to be addressed for me.

Another fun ride from Ms. Archer. As I've said before she gets you right into the plot. Some writers want to drag out the first 3 chapters with boring stuff before you get a hint of the plot. Not this gal. Love her.

Love the theater community and references to Shakespeare and his contemporaries. The love story itself was not really for me. Lizzy was quite afraid of Rafe and she was right to feel that way. He was a better guy than she remembered, but it was hard for me as a reader to overcome the initial suspicion that both Rafe and James were not all that great for Lizzy. My favorite sections were when Lizzy was backstage working on costumes. Loved that.

Almost 2 years after graduating from seminary, I audited a Greek class and felt a little defeated at how much leaked out of my head. After hearing that story, a friend of mine suggested this very book. Post seminarians are busy and need something that is very quick and effective and I believe Dr. Kline has produced such a thing. From 10 seconds on the low-end to 5 minutes on the high-end, the student gets to decide how much they can take in daily, with even 10 seconds a day being effective at slowing the leak. Once getting into it, one tends to read several days in one sitting. I also appreciate that the cover of this book is hard and will last a long time.

I wish this book would have been around 30 years ago! This is a great way to review Greek.

It’s as easy as daily use of the language. Still, for most students of the biblical languages (past or present), there are two common hurdles to overcome—time and direction. Each day has a passage of Scripture in English and Greek with certain Greek words highlighted and explained.Wanting to learn Greek I have heard that those who do not use it consistently loose much of what they have learned. Thus I can see how resources like these will aid those in Greek studies greatly. What is also appreciated is that this is not solely a vocabulary builder. Rather it is using context to build vocabulary and at the same time increase retention of words previously learned.The size of the volumes also makes transporting them much easier. There are not textbook in size but are compact enough to achieve their stated purpose. That is a nice benefit as a large volume may give cause to leave there where they may be forgotten.There is also a book mark to keep your place as well as dates at the top to keep track of progression. While it is not necessary to use the reading suggestion it is nice to use as a potential devotional alongside an English devotional.As to the books themselves, the bindings are strong and should long after much use. The paper is a good opaque color which could provide some room for notes for those who write to learn. I was surprised by both of these as I could tell that there were printed with use and readability in mind.It is also important to note that both volumes are similar and one is not verbs and the other nouns, for example. Each volume could be used independent of the other but having both volumes will increase more passages to study and words to learn. The most important aspect to consider - the actual content of the book - is fantastic for teaching a journalism 101 course. If I used a textbook, this would definitely be the my first choice, and I've read through quite a few journalism texts. It covers a lot of topics, has well thought-out writing samples, and the quizzes/exercises at the end of each chapter are very thought provoking.However, the the reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is simply the quality of materials: cover, binding, and paper. The paper is more of a newspaper type paper which left my hands really dry and irritated after reading a while. It's a minor issue. But more importantly, the binding is terrible, at least in my copy. The first time I opened the book, pages in the back fell out. I would expect more for the $120+ price tag of NEW book. If you purchase this, and I recommend you do if you teach scholastic journalism, do yourself a huge favor and buy a used copy.

I got this book for my Journalism 200 course. The book does not read like a boring textbook and has a lot of different sections on each page with different information. Unfortunately, some of the pages end up looking quite cluttered because of all the little boxes and sections. It is also very easy to skip over different sections because they may seem unimportant or ou may just not notice them. I missed a few questions on a test because I skipped around. Oops!Overall, it is a helpful, interesting textbook.

I love this book. I began taking classes in journalism to learn a different style of writing than academic. This book gets five stars from me because it is formatted like a newspaper or magazine. Harrower wants the reader to not just learn the concepts of news writing and reporting, but also to see exactly how it should look visually. Although this book is not as exhaustive as some other texts, it does a much better job at holding the readers attention.

When I learned that I had to spend around $100 for a textbook, I was not very happy. However, now that I have completed Print Journalism 1 using this book, I can say that money was well worth it.The amount of examples of great journalism is impressive. Tim Harrower has gathered several excerpts of famous works of journalism in the back of the book and has placed examples of various kinds of writing throughout the chapters. This makes it very easy for students to learn how to utilize different styles of journalism.The way this book is set up makes it very easy to learn the material. Different subjects are presented every few pages, such as how a newsroom functions and how to write sports pieces. Each section has colorful graphics, helpful hints, exercises, and a lot of pertinent information.Tim Harrower has done an awesome job presenting information without sounding stuffy or boring. He makes being an editor or journalist sound fun. However, he does write about how the real world functions and how important it is to be a good gatekeeper for your readers. Harrower also does a good job clearly explaining what shield laws are and how reporters function alongside the government.If you are new to journalism or are taking a class on it, this book can help. It is funny, it is useful, it is informational, it is great.In short, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn about journalism.

Fabulous resource for anyone in journalism classes. I bought this as a textbook for my journalism program, from which I graduated last year. I keep it as a reference. Fun to read. Easy to read. Laid out and designed like a magazine, it is definitely a communication major's pleasure to read.

I really like this book. The author details how a reporter does his/her job and life in the newsroom. The layout and text can be very dense, so it feels like a longer book that it is by page count. I'd like to see the author increase the number of exercises to help enforce the chapter material more. It did its job with me: I believe I'm a better writer; and, I know how to better angle stories for my audience.

PLEASE READ FIRST MY RATING SYSTEM!!!To my ratings (thanks to amazon I had to change it again and 'upgrade' it a little bit.My old 3* is now a 3,5* and clicked with a 4* but in review marked as 3,5*):5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like 'Jesse's Smile' and Joey' from Angelique Jurd, 'Save the kids' series from EM Leya or 'Liberty' from Seth King),it's like an A+4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books) it's like an A3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an B+3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader (2-3 times a year), it's like a B2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok) It's like a C-, D1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolute NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the classAt first, I was confused. I had already 3 books in the series and now there was a new one, and THAT should be book one? But after asking the author, it was clear. The first book was written by another author (that's why that book isn't either in KU) and that author didn't continue with Beau, so he provided now the book one in the series.And as the other books, it's a pleasure to read it.

Fox is definitely a mouthy and insecure omega. An OBGYN nurse who has a run in with Dr.Prost and the battle begins to see if they are going to make it as a couple or fall to the way side. Both men don't want a relationship, but enjoy the sex. But when they do think they want a little more they are both afraid to invest their hearts. Its a story that just when things look good, they don't and the reader is kept on their toes as they watch these two MCs fight their way into each others hearts. Fox is the most insecure and this reader wondered if his mouthiness is going to make him loose what he wants most...an alpha and a father for their baby. Excellent story that is well worth reading for you Mpreg fans out their. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book.

Despite the initial strife between Fox and Liam I really liked and rooted for their relationship. Fox is blunt, he definitely tells it how he sees it and he doesn't care. He constantly challenges Liam. He doesn't believe that he is less important, intelligent or worthy of respect just because he's an omega. Sometimes he's so busy stating his opinion that he doesn't listen or assumes what Liam thinks. Liam is a bit too sure of himself at times. I liked that he started to soften as he spent time with Fox. When he put Fox first, even in the midst of an argument, he won me over completely. The man put his priorities in order. There is a lot of push and pull in the story but it all left me with a smile at the end.

I agree with Majorie Williams, I also own books 2 & 3 of the series. Fox is distressed with the way omegas are supposed to kowtow to alphas. He retaliates by being mouthy and butt is where he doesn't belong. Liam is am alpha that spouts about equality for omegas, but still expects them to follow. When offered his dream job in L.A. he expects Fox to follow meekly. Fox refuses to leave Sweetwater and refuses to compromise.I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

From their first meeting they butted heads but fate had something else in store for them. They couldn’t deny the pull and attraction they had and kept on coming back to each other. When life throws them a curve ball they decide to fight for what they want. The road to their HEA is it not easy but compromise and communication is key. This was a good read and a nice start to a new series. I voluntarily received an arc of this book.

So much sass from Fox ❤. I loved the push and pull between Liam and Fox, all in all a very enjoyable read.*I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book*

I’m still confused how this book came about considering that it’s new and I read books two and three already but regardless it was a great read. I love sassy Omegas! Now I’m going back to read the other two books!

I cannot tell you how many self-help/psychology books I've read before! Some have been good, others not so helpful. I grew up with a BPD parent, suffered all types of abuse from emotional to sexual...and this book is transforming my life!!! The great thing about this book is the 'aha' moments practically on every page, as well as the transformative work of self compassion. If you have suffered any type of abuse, if you suffer from shame or low self esteem, then please buy this book! You will not be disappointed I promise!

I've struggled with so many issues over the years, chief of which is debilitating TMS pain. In my 20-year search for a way to shed myself of this pain, I've tried so many things. Dr. John Sarno's work has been helpful but it really only gave me information about what was happening to me. Not a clear path toward healing. In my search, I thankfully kept digging deeper and deeper. My pain is largely tied to anger but I could never identify the real source of the anger within me. I tried anger management to no avail. Then I stumbled onto a Psychology Today article about shame, written by Beverly Engel. The contents resonated enough with me that I thought I'd try her book. I'm so glad I did.I've worked through this book over the last couple of months. In that time, I've felt a shift in my inner landscape. The introduction of a kind, caring inner voice has changed my perspective on everything. My pain has significantly diminished and I find myself feeling less judgmental of myself and others. I know I have much work left to do. It's a process that will continue every single day, but I now see hope. I see a way out of the nightmare my life had become. I couldn't recommend this book more highly.

I have read countless books, undergone a wide range of therapies, struggled on and on for years on end with a deep seated, debilitating sense of shame about who I am and the single most useful, and healing, discovery I have had has been the practice of self-compassion. Reading this book made me feel understood in a way I had never known before. But even more valuable than this, the contents of this book showed me how I could give myself the understanding, acceptance and love I so deeply needed and longed for. This has transformed how I see myself, how I treat myself (and others) and how I live my life. For this I am eternally grateful.

Beverly Engel understands your shame and how you came to be saddled by it. I recommend doing the exercises in the book. What I have found useful is to set a reminder on my phone 3 times per day to perform her "check-ins" (anger, sadness, fear, shame, other) on page 222 (location 3106 on Kindle). I find myself using self-understanding and self-acceptance in the repetition of this useful exercise. I hope to add self-encouragement via a gentle inner-corrector, now that I've finished the book.I found Ms. Engel's personal experiences made the book relatable and credible. Her work is more specific and helpful for trauma survivors than is the work of Kristin Neff (whose research Engel uses for the reader's benefit) or Brene Brown and has more compassion for the reader than van der Kolk. I am appreciative that the author wrote this book.

How many times have I heard someone tell me "it wasn't your fault"?I logically understood it. Yet, I would still lie in bed (for 20 years) wondering if/what I could have done differently the very first, second, third, every-time I had been sexually abused.It wasn't until Beverly Engel explained to me WHY it wasn't my fault; that self-compassion is the antidote to shame; that the reason why I kept thinking of alternatives is I couldn't/refused to accept 'I was such a vulnerable being as a child, and that I still continue to be a vulnerable being today as an adult.'This book healed and freed me from the bulk of my SHAME. I pray it helps you in your healing too.

I have spent a small fortune on therapy, as well as hundreds of books. Believe me Beverly Engel pours her heart and soul into every page. She writes brilliantly with a caring and compassionate heart and shares her knowledge in a way that makes the reader feel understood. Many believe that child abuse is harmless because children won’t remember anyway, but getting over the fear, distrust, and debilitating shame often takes a lifetime. Many who have suffered child abuse end up on drugs, alcohol, in prison, or worse. Fortunately, Beverly Engel explains the various ways that children are abused and includes exercises to help you remember and understand your own unique experiences. She leads you very cleverly toward the development of the self-compassion you so badly need. This is one book you’ll be glad you read.

Engel is usually a winner and this one is excellent. Sometimes wish she'd include less personal details but that's just my personal quibble. The key principles are well-presented. Few other authors tackle the shame issue head on as she does, and in such a readable and personable manner. I work with abuse victims and am using it extensively.

I have read literally 100's if not 1000's of self help books. I had a psychologist for a while and he was a wonder too. She is amazing, one can actually feel her love coming through the pages, it is like she is sitting there in a private room with the person talking to them. She misses nothing in her book, any question a person has is answered here and with love and empathy. I was raised by a Narcissist and never knew it till I went to my Dr. and mentor quite a few years ago and found out. I was abused emotionally and physically and she has answered every question I have had, and has shown me ways to change some things that I had never pondered or thought of. I have been working to better myself for years and I bought every last one of her books to read over the winter and get some more knowledge from a person who can show love and empathy through the pages. It is truly something special, and I picked up on it and am using it to my advantage. I wish all of you to do the same!! You won't get another book like hers, that comes as ones private practice Dr. Enjoy them if you get them, and I hope you do!
